Meet Our Founder

Nancy

Hi, I’m Nancy – firstly, thank you for being here!  I am a mother of two little ones (3 and 1), and was inspired to create Anamav Postnatal Care due to my personal experiences after the birth of my first child.

Unfortunately, I suffered from postpartum psychosis (learn more about my story), and knowing the impact of a traumatic postpartum experience on a person and family, I am now determined to support new parents and help fill the gap in postpartum care in Canada. I am a postpartum doula (certifying with Doula Canada) and I am also completing my Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Certification.

I am involved in multiple non-profit organizations that specialize in perinatal mental health – I act as the Treasurer/Director of Finance for Postpartum Support International (Canada), Perinatal Wellbeing Ontario, and the Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative. I have been practicing as a Chartered Professional Accountant in the GTA for over 10 years and have a strong financial and business background.

I live in Vaughan with my husband and two kids, and in the little free time I have, I enjoy going on walks, dancing, and planning trips!

Growing up as one of 4 children, and me being the oldest, I witnessed how hard it is to be a parent, especially with not a lot of help. This was the main reason I wanted to be that support system for parents. The oldest child naturally takes on a support role and that was an early introduction. It has been a natural transition working as a doula professionally and helping ease the weight that parenting can cause. During my years as a doula I’ve been lucky enough to support several families, helping to integrate a newborn into their home and lives.

I believe that this kind of support is crucial at any point in a child’s (and parent’s) life because it really does take a village to raise smart and healthy children.

I understand that every family is unique, so my approach is to support families with whatever they need in the moment to provide comfort and ease in their parenting journey.

When I’m not working as a doula, I enjoy being outside experiencing new things and travelling to different restaurants or scenic places!

All of our doulas are certified or in the process of certifying with well-established doula training institutions. They are also CPR certified and have gone through background checks. You can rest assured that you are being supported by qualified and compassionate individuals no matter who you work with!
